Exploring an artistic space between Baroque grandeur and modern grit, American arts Celeste Rapone enjoys revisiting the works of the Old Masters in an effort to comment on the imagery of the modern day.
Beginning with the legacy of the Dutch Golden Age, Rapone updates her work by paralleling the refined finish of such masterful compositions with a sense of the overdone ostentation that dominates the modern world. Using a brash palette and the element of texture that she builds up upon the surface, Rapone’s work simultaneously recall a bygone era while exploring the potential for the styles of that era to re-emerge in the current moment.
Born in New Jersey in 1985, Rapone earned her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2007 and subsequently worked toward her MFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has already enjoyed the exhibition of work in a variety of notable locations across the country.
