Los Angeles-based artist creates multilayered works with multifarious references to reflect not only his own varied interests as an artist but also to examine the ways in which our lives have become saturated with so many media outlets.
In his creations, stock photography morphs with abstract forms to create a rich network of concepts that call upon the vast artistic canon alongside the contemporary as if this they are seemingly a fascinating collage of past and present. It is through such a framework that Mull presents the depth of his theoretical approach to image-making.
Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Mull attended the Rhode Island School of Design for his BFA degree and, following his graduation in 2000, pursued his MFA at the California Institute of the Arts (completed 2006). He has exhibited his work in various exhibitions and has also had his work accepted into the permanent collections of notable international museums. Some of the collections including his work are The Whitney Museum of Modern Art, New York; the UCLA Hammer Museum, California; and the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis.
