Andrea Éva Győri
1985 · Hungary
Hungarian artist Andrea Éva Győri works across a variety of media in a large quest to tell her own personal story through her work.
Fascinated by the notions of femininity and their influence on the ways in which she developed her own self image, Győri creates everything from sculptures to performance works that pose as many questions about identity as they do respond to them. Throughout her body of work, the viewer is treated to Győri’s insightful commentaries on the human experience and the ways in which she can both observe and critique the world around her.
Born in Hungary in 1985, Győri earned a degree in 2015 and subsequently pursued a postgraduate program in fine arts at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Stuttgart. Her work has been featured in a variety of exhibition venues, including the Triennale der Kleinplastik in Fellbach, Germany (2013); the Videonale15 Bonn, Germany (2015); and MANIFESTA 11, The European Biennial of Contemporary Art, Zürich, Switzerland (2016). She was awarded a 1.5-year residency with h Jan Van Eyck Multiform Institute from 2017 to 2019, and she is currently nominated for both the Preis der Nationalgalerie 2019 and the Esterházy Art Award 2020.
