1975 · Brazil
Investigating an artistic space in which form is only just taking shape, Brazilian artist Adriano Costa invests his work with a Minimalist sensibility that recalls everything from the colonial era to the contemporary one.
Borrowing media from across his Brazilian culture, Costa tears these materials away from their traditional context and instead imbues them with a new symbolic meaning. Abstract harmonies emerge as he pulls disparate threads together in a chaotic symphony of sculptural splendor.
Born in São Paulo in 1975, Costa graduated with a BA in art from the Universidade de São Paulo and still today is based in that city. He has enjoyed a plethora of showcases of his work around the globe. Recent exhibitions of his work include those at the Galeria Polinésia in São Paulo (2009); Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris (2011); and Sadie Coles HQ in London (2014).
